Just because the school year ends does not mean that learning has to also. Having the mind active throughout the entire year not only will benefit you academically but it also gives you something to do over the long summer. There are multitudes of camps, university programs, and SAT prep sessions.

The university programs offer countless summer school programs for high school students that don’t necessarily have to enroll in the school.

At UCSC the COSMOS programs is a mathematics and science program over the summer. The University of Southern California includes The Summer Seminars which is a four week program on the campus to earn three units of elective credit and it is open to high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors. The Summer Science Program for Middle School Girls is apart from the Summer Science of Middle School Boys but both include the discovery of marine biology and oceanography in the Catalina Islands to learn off hand the real life of the ocean. The Exploration of Architecture will enable the student to learn of designing and architecture as a four week program on the campus of USC.

Also at UCR the annual GIS Summer School Program is for those interested in Geospatial Analysis and Technology and things as such.

At the UCSB offers Early Start Program for students attracted to the university along with the Environmental Mock Summit Program to have gifted students participate in this program to learn more about global warming and other environmental issues.

Besides all the educational summer school programs in universities it is also a good idea to visit your local high school to see what they offer as well. There are loads of classes to look into depending on what area of study you would like to pursue. Also local community colleges such as the Riverside Community College, offers classes from Geometry to Dance to Reading and others.
